| | today's programme turned the clock back to the birth of techno | |
| | music in detroit in the eighties. the show featured a range of | |
| | classic detroit techno anthems by pioneers of the scene, these | |
| | included two tracks each from the three key originators of the | |
| | city's techno sound: derrick may (under his rhythim is rhythim | |
| | pseudonym) including the ageless tune 'strings of life', kevin | |
| | saunderson (as reese and tronik house) including the track 'up | |
| | tempo' which remains huge in the old skool rave scene and juan | |
| | atkins (as model 500 and, erm, juan) including the popular and | |
| | funky 'off to battle'. between offerings from these godfathers | |
| | of techno music i played tracks by other significant producers | |
| | namely kenny larkin (as dark comedy), eddie "flashing" fowlkes | |
| | (as himself!) and finally a personal favourite from carl craig | |
| | (as six nine). next week: poll-winning classic ambient albums. | |
