| |                  "spanning the bristol sound"                  | |
| | although it sounds more like a geographical feature, the title | |
| | "bristol sound" was coined in the early 1990's to describe the | |
| | distinctive style, of moody vocals and beats, of certain bands | |
| | from that part of england. the first one featured in this show | |
| | was massive attack - with my favourite tracks from their first | |
| | two albums - including the huge classic 'unfinished sympathy', | |
| | recorded as massive out of respect during the gulf war. i also | |
| | played a track from the mad professor's dub remix album, and a | |
| | dubby remix by massive attack themselves. then onto tricky - a | |
| | sometime vocalist with massive attack and an artist in his own | |
| | right - with his excellent cover of an old public enemy track. | |
| | finally onto portishead, best known for the mournful nightclub | |
| | vocals of beth gibbons. i played a selection from the 'dummy', | |
| | 'portishead' and 'roseland nyc: live' albums covering '94-'98. | |
