| | this week i featured the works of mark bell and gez varley who | |
| | are better known as lfo (having taken their title from the low | |
| | frequency oscillator component of synthesizers). as one of the | |
| | first artists to be signed to warp records, they pioneered the | |
| | "bleep techno" scene in sheffield in the early 1990's and they | |
| | released their classic electronic album 'frequencies' in 1991. | |
| | today's show featured some key tracks from their early work on | |
| | warp, plus their remix of japanese techno legends yellow magic | |
| | orchestra, before moving onto some of their more diverse tunes | |
| | of later years. i played 2 tracks from 'advance', their second | |
| | album, which finally hit the shops in 1996 - ranking alongside | |
| | leftfield and underworld in the long-awaited uk techno follow- | |
| | up album stakes! - and closed the programme with a remix of an | |
| | early lfo album track remixed in '99 for warp's 10th birthday. | |
